Essque Zalu Zanzibar is a boutique resort set in a natural cove on the northeast coast of Unguja, in Nungwi, with ocean on one side and forest on the other. Accommodation is spread across 40 individual suites and 8 villas, built with local materials and native artwork under traditional makuti thatched roofs, with each suite or villa looking out over either the garden or the ocean from a private balcony or terrace. Rooms include air conditioning, a minibar, a separate living area, and a bathroom with a bidet and shower.
The resort has three restaurants and three bars, including The Jetty for modern Arabic-influenced dishes, an à la carte fine-dining restaurant, and The Market Kitchen, along with the 1506 Bar and Terrace for drinks and light bites. Guests also have access to a large lagoon-style pool, a spa offering a Turkish steam room, sauna, and foot bath, direct beach access, a private art gallery, and the Maisha Cookery Studio, which runs classes on Swahili cuisine.
